Clinic for General, Visceral, Vascular and Thoracic Surgery

Medical Highlights of the Clinic

2 Ärzte bei einer OP

In 2008, this Clinic was the first in Frankfurt am Main to be successfully certified as a competence centre for surgical coloproctology by the German Society for General and Visceral Surgery (DGAV). The competence centre for coloproctology treats all benign and malignant diseases of the colon and rectum, such as bowel cancer, abscesses, anal fistula, haemorrhoids, as well as inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis.

Just as minimally invasive surgery, for instance on the gall bladder, and minimally invasive aortic surgery have undergone significant developments in our establishment, the introduction and development of modern yet individual concepts for surgery as well as treatments also form the basis of our work.

State-of-the-art instruments and equipment, an interdisciplinary intensive care ward and surgical IMC, well-structured continued training and development as well as the application of optimised clinical pathways, continue to contribute to the safe medical care and treatment of our patients.

The entire range of treatments is primarily based on interdisciplinary collaboration in the fields of tumour surgery and complex surgical interventions: departments concerned with surgery, anaesthesia, internal medicine, oncology, pathology, gastroenterology and radiology work closely together.

During post-operative phases immediately following surgery, effective patient-controlled pain therapy, early mobilization through physiotherapists and up-to-date fast track concepts ensure the fast recovery of our patients.

At the same time, the treatment of dialysis patients and patients with diabetic foot syndrome, in respectively close cooperation with the Clinic for Internal Medicine 2, are becoming increasingly more important.
