Sociopaediatric Centre

Team of our Sociopaediatric Centre

The Sociopaediatric Centre (SPZ) is a specialised institution for the out-patient treatment of children and adolescents.

After consulting their paediatrician, families are able to contact the SPZ if there are noticeable anomalies in the development of their children. By means of our large multiprofessional team, consisting of specialists for paediatric and adolescent medicine and psychiatry, psychologists, remedial teachers and social educators, speech and psychomotor therapists, physiotherapists and occupational therapists as well as paediatric nurses, we provide a large range of diagnostic and therapeutic options.

Furthermore, we work closely together with specialised centres, early intervention centres, kindergartens, schools and youth welfare institutions in order to provide optimal support for children and families.

The SPZ at Klinikum Frankfurt Höchst was founded twenty years ago and is one of the biggest of its kind in Germany. Approximately 5,000 patients, with a total of around 8,000 approved quarterly fundings, are treated here annually.

Four specialised areas, managed by senior physicians, enable a well coordinated system of diagnostics and treatment.

At the Department for Epileptology and Neuropaediatrics, the main focus area is the treatment of children with complex epilepsy, syndromal and/or neurometabolic diseases. Electrophysiological examinations, in particular video EEG measurements, are an important part of our diagnostic range of services.

The Department for Movement Disorders primarily treats children with anomalies of motor development and cerebral palsy. Therapeutic options and special features include ultrasound assisted botulinum toxin injections, performed under sedation, as well as special treatments (incl. Galileo Vibration Therapy).

The Department for Psychosocial Developmental Disorders provides diagnostics and treatment for developmental disorders, Attention Deficit Disorder, specific learning disabilities and tic disorders (e.g. group therapy and ADHS parent training).

The Department for Paediatric and Adolescent Psychiatry is the contact point for emotional childhood disorders, pervasive developmental disorders as well as psychogenic excretory and childhood eating disorders.

The SPZ is affiliated with the autism treatment centre (ATZ). Here, children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders are able to receive treatment oriented towards behavioural therapy as well as early remedial support, after approval has been provided by the social welfare office.

Within the context of the interdisciplinary paediatric centre, a close working relationship exists with the Clinic for Paediatric and Adolescent Medicine, paediatric surgery, paediatric urology, paediatric orthopaedics, obstetrics , paediatric and adolescent gynaecology as well as the clinics for ear, nose and throat diseases, opthalmology and neurosurgery.
